During World War II, he served as a paratrooper with the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division. The 508th Infantry Regiment (508th PIR, 508th AIR, or 508th IR) ("Red Devils" or "Fury from the Sky") is an airborne infantry regiment of the United States Army, first formed in October 1942 during World War II.
Bill jumped on 1:30 on D-Day and fougth foor 33 days in France, 44 days in Holland, and the battle of the bulge. HE RECEIVED 2 PURPLE HEARTS, A BRONZE STAR, AND 3 BATTLE STARS.
